Welcome to Delores Merrill's Memorial

Do not stand at my grave and weep,

I am not there, I do not sleep,

I am a thousand winds that blow,

I am the diamond glint on snow.

When you wake in the morning hush,

I am the swift uplifting rush

of quiet birds in circling flight.

I am the soft starlight at night.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.

I am not there, I do not sleep.

  Delores told everyone

"No flowers, No service, just remember the good times, laugh

and sing and go live your life

like a Frank Sinatra or James Darren's song."

Delores had several favorite sayings,

" There are no U-hauls behind hearses, so don't buy it if you have to dust it."

" Pray for the dead, fight like hell for the living"  ( Mother Jones)

"Do not wear out that Good Heart in Grief"

Going with Delores and Cris across Turkey was like taking bakery addicts across Paris. This is an impromptu dance party in a store in Cappodccia after a morning of sight seeing in monastic caves. We hit every dance show I could find, and then some, like the music stores.

Every Turk we met was delighted to cook Delores anything she wanted,,, here it was lamb chops, after we walked up to the top of the falls and back down again. All of Turkey was impressed that Cris and I brought our mother, and did not take a bus tour. We rode the train and the local busses, ate in the cafes and mom loved talking about our adventures.

The driver was so proud of his bus, from Germany, the Turkish bus routes were amazing.

Kiva

Kiva was Delores's  favorite new charity in the last year, since its not a charity, Kiva provides loans to people that do not have access to credit to grow or make their own businesses. We stopped doing x-mas years ago, and kept presents to a minimum so we could help others, no u-hauls at our house.

The Kiva clients repays the loans, then the donor gets to choose to whom to lend to again. Right now we have about 6 loans out,  ( in Dumbledores Army lending team) that will expire in the next year and be reinvested in Delores's Army lending team.

Mom and I really enjoyed Kiva and I can hear mom calling from downstairs, how is the lady in Uzbekistan doing with her cow? did the lady  in Ghana get enough money for her chicken feed?

We also have local charities and food banks I continue to support, but this was our international effort to help the world, the loans we made emphasized women, because its harder for women to get credit. No credit cards for poor people.

Delores now has her own lending team on Kiva

    Delores's Army

Why DA? we were part of Dumbledores army, and Moms initials are DA

so now the Delores's Army, based on love, faith and credit for women.

Donor list

 Maureen Houston

        Dear Cris and Justine:
Please accept this small gift in memory of your mother. All of you seem very aware of different cultures with your dancing. I remember attending a Phillipino dinner while you lived in Madison.
Your cousin, Maureen

Arlene Mountin

   Dear Justine and Cris
This gift for Kiva is in honor of your mother. Seems like a very fine program.
Love  Arlene

Berry of  Dumbledores Army

We are sorry to hear of your loss. What a wonderful way to honor your mother. I briefly joined Delores' Army to make a loan in your mother's name. I know you have expressed preference for loans made to women only, and your mother was a retired teacher. Therefore, I selected a loan to a group of women, including a retired teacher, from Kyrgyzstan. I hope you will reconsider dropping off Dumbledore's Army. Many of us belong to several teams, and I encourage you to stay. Best wishes to you, yes or no.
